Annual APTNE NYC LGBTQ Walking Tour: LGBTQ History in Greenwich Village
New York, NY Tuesday, July 14th 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

Join us for an in-person summer evening walking tour exploring key sites of LGBTQ history in Greenwich Village, centered on the Stonewall National Monument. At a time when LGBTQ histories are increasingly at risk of being erased, this tour offers an important opportunity to engage with the places and stories that shaped the movement. Beginning at Christopher Park, across from the Stonewall Inn, the tour will trace the broader historical context leading up to the pivotal 1969 uprising, examining the social and legal conditions faced by LGBTQ communities in New York City. Along the route, participants will visit sites associated with landmark moments and influential organizations, as well as the homes of many prominent LGBTQ individuals. The tour will conclude at Julius’, site of the historic 1966 “Sip-In,” a defining moment in the fight for LGBTQ rights. Andrew Dolkart, the founder of the NYC LGBTQ Historic Sites Project, will lead this approximately 90-minute tour. We encourage APTNE members to take part in this timely and thought-provoking program and to register early, as space may be limited.
